Someone who cares is as close as your phone! Contact Greater Philadelphia is a non-profit, United Way agency that provides free telephone helpline services to the residents of the greater Philadelphia area. We are staffed by volunteers who are trained in crisis intervention and active listening skills. Our helplines offer a caring presence for lonely, depressed, anxious, and needy people. We receive over 45,000 calls a year - over 125 a day - to people of all ages. In addition we make calls out to our reassurance clients. For some, Contact is their main source of assistance and reassurance. Contact provides confidential and anonymous assistance to callers with emotional and personal problems. We do not give advice, we offer empathetic listening and help callers find ways to work through their situations. We can provide callers with information and referrals to other agencies that can provide additional help. Contact also acts as a crisis intervention service for callers involved in life-threatening situations.
