Some favorite Freudian terms are the unconscious, Id, ego, superego, penis envy, the Oedipus complex, castration anxiety, Freudian slip, dream interpretation, defense mechanisms, transference, resistance and countertransference. Anna Freud wrote about defense mechanisms. She was also involved in Object relations theory. Self psychology is an offshoot of psychoanalysis. My clinical approach is psychodynamic, which is different from cognitive, cognitive behavioral or just behavioral psychotherapy. Psychological health is important. I’m not a psychiatrist, nor practice psychiatry and do not prescribe psychotropic medication like antidepressants, which include Prozac, Paxil, Zoloft, Celexa, Effexor Lexipro and Welbutrin, which are also known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors
