Description:
Dear Prospective Educator,
Welcome to the Mid-Atlantic Teacher Institute! We are excited to offer this innovative program representing a collaborative effort between two long-standing leaders in education and teacher preparation, Norwood School and The George Washington University.
Norwood School has gained a reputation in the Washington, D.C. area as an outstanding school with excellent educators. It is a dynamic community in which to teach and learn; a school with a long history of high standards and innovative teaching strategies. Norwood has been training teachers for over twenty years. Graduates of the internship program have been extremely successful and work in schools all over the country, both as teachers and administrators.
The George Washington University is well known for its school-based alumni who serve in teaching and administration throughout the region and nationally. The teacher education programs have a waiting list for their graduates and a 100% employment rate. Alumni are highly rated by their supervisors for their superior content knowledge, and their strong philosophical belief that all students can learn. The Graduate School of Education and Human Development is the fifth highest rated, nationally accredited, private graduate school of education in the country and is the fifth among all graduate schools of education in research and training dollars awarded per faculty member. The school has several times produced an annual group of Phi Beta Kappa nominees, greater than that of any liberal arts department, and has the highest number of meritorious new teacher candidates of any school of education in the Mid-Atlantic Region.
Many graduate programs in teacher preparation exist throughout the country. The Mid-Atlantic Teacher Institute distinguishes itself by offering aspiring educators:
