The School Archive Project is a 10-year time-capsule and class reunion system that improves student motivation and performance through a physical connection with their future, lowering the student dropout rate over 40% in the process. This system involves 8th graders placing a letter they write to themselves into a centrally located vault in their school. The letter is about their achievements, stories from their lives, and their goals. They write this letter, seal it, and place it into the “Achievement & Goals Archive” themselves, where is remains for 10 years. The Archive will be seen as an obvious place of respect in the school. It is a connection with the future. It will constantly remind students and staff of the future they are all growing and working toward. These students will be invited back as adulte Thanksgiving week of the 10th year after graduation for a reunion, and to pick up their letters. They will also be invited to speak with the then current 8th grade students about what they would do if they were 13 again. Dropout prevention is the largest benefit but gang prevention and the lowering of the teen pregnancy rate are also benefits of a well-managed School Archive Project.
