The Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot is named for Willem C. Vis, the General Director of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) at the time the U.N. Convention on the International Sale of Goods (CISG or Vienna Convention) was promulgated. He later became a Professor of Law at Pace Law School and was the Director of the Pace Institute of International Commercial Law Institute until his death in 1993.
