A little back ground...I am from Ohio but I begged my parents to let me attend Cranbrook Kingswood in Michigan for high school. It is a artist dream school! I have a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in Sculpture (not jewelry). While at RISD my sculpture focus was mainly on heavy forged Steel, cast bronze & aluminum. My father had taught me basic jewelry skills when I was a kid, but I am pretty much self taught when it comes to jewelry. After college, I worked in the jewelry repair dept. of Tiffany & Co. in New York City. It was more public relations than jewelry work, but what a fantastic experience! Just getting to visit their New Jersey 1890's silver factory alone was incredible. Among the great lessons I learned there, was how rough people can be with their jewelry. That is why I make jewelry that is meant to weather the test of time and hopefully survive to become a family heirloom. From about 1986 until it's closing in 1993, I was represented by Robert Lee Morris' ARTWEAR in SoHo. It was so fantastic to be part of a gallery with so many great jewelers such as Ted Muehling, and of course Robert who is a marvel of creative energy! In the 80's I created a line of hand carved plexiglass and 24k gold leaf jewelry which appeared in Vogue, Elle & Harpers Bazaar to name a few. Robert encouraged me to expand my knowledge of silver smithing techniques so my jewelry started to shift to St. Silver lost wax casting. My Gothic Cross ring and Gothic Heart pendant were among the first pieces in 1989. I was thrilled to later have Cher want to include those pieces in her Sanctuary Catalogue and now in her boutique at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas. After ARTWEAR closed, I joined the Talavera showroom around 1996 and continued to sell to great stores and boutiques like Barney's, Nest in San Francisco and Twist in Portland, Or. In Dec. of 1998 I saw the trailer for the Matrix movie. Right then I decided to move to L.A. and try to break into making jewelry for film. I moved 4 months later and by 2000, I was working on my first movie. Eventually I decided to drastically cut back on the amount of jewelry I sold through stores though so I had more time to do the movie work. I make all my jewelry myself and really have to manage my time. While it is fun to meet celebrities, what I really love is getting to see all the costumes, sets and props being made.
