St. Lucian-Canadian artist, Donna Grandin (nee Gomez) paints bold, colourful nature-inspired paintings with acrylic paints on canvas. Mostly tropical flowers and foliage, landscapes, with some still-life and figurative elements. Donna’s newest Caribbean art, her 2010 series “Hibiscus ‘n Bananas”, was inspired by the summer she spent in St. Lucia, in 2009. Donna got her fine art degree from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, and currently resides in Burlington, Ontario with her family, making trips home to the Caribbean to soak in the atmosphere. Donna’s sense of colour, rhythmic style, exotic tropical imagery, combine to create art that is beautiful and uplifting, and reveals an artist who is passionate about painting. Donna has had solo exhibitions at Sunset Motors Ltd in St. Lucia, Hamilton Public Library, Henderson General Hospital in Hamilton, and Toronto City Hall. Group exhibitions include St. Lucia City Hall, Burlington Art Center, Art Gallery of Hamilton, McMaster Museum of Art in Hamilton. In 2000 Donna won the gold award in the visual arts category of the M&C Awards Competition in St. Lucia. In 2009 she was commissioned by the City of Toronto to paint a mural that was installed on the outside of the building at 400 McCowan, Scarborough, Ontario. Donna is currently represented by the Inner Gallery in St. Lucia.
