About this site This site is an index of video related to the development of Python the language, Python interpreters, Python application development, Python tools, and the ecology surrounding Python development. This site is curated in that I pick and choose what videos get pulled into the site and I clean up the title, description, and tags data to make videos easier to find on the site. Current curators are Will Kahn-Greene and Carl Karsten. Work is done in our spare time. Typically we spend 10 hours a month on the site. How to help If you find videos that aren't on the site, please submit them. If you know of a RSS feed of videos that aren't on here, send me an email with the feed. If you know of a Python interest group or local user group that videos their lectures and meetings and posts those videos on the Internet like ChiPy and PyATL do, send me the feed. If you find videos that have poor descriptions or titles, add a comment or send me an email. If there are better ways to categorize things, let me know. My goal is to make this site an important and useful index of Python videos by making it easy to find video material you're looking for. Video Quality Guidelines There's a lot of video out there, but not all of it is worth watching afterwards. We work hard to build an index of video on Python Miro Community that's good enough quality that people can get something out of it. We have the following loose requirements: First, it must have an audio narrative. It's really important to have an audio narrative so that we know what we're watching and why. Generally speaking if it has no audio, then we won't approve it on the site. Second, it must have good enough quality audio. It's really hard to follow a video that has crummy audio. If you can't hear the presenter(s) or if there's too much room noise, then we won't approve it on the site. Third, it must have good enough quality video. It's frustrating to watch a video where the presenter is referring to a slide that's just not readable in the video. If the slides are unreadable or there are other things that are important to the video message that can't be seen because of low quality video, we won't approve it on the site. There are exceptions to these rules--we're not stickler for the sake of being sticklers. If you're recording video for a conference, a user group or something like that and want advice on how to record quality audio and video, send us a note. Comment Quality Guidelines All comments are moderated. We encourage people to post comments that correct mistakes in the videos, point to resources, add additional information, ... When you write a comment, be considerate, be respectful, and write something interesting. If your comment doesn't meet those criteria, post it on your blog--not here. Funding This is entirely done in our spare time and is kindly hosted by Participatory Culture Foundation, the non-profit behind Miro. If you could help with funding, that'd be great. This site has a critical mass of really interesting video. There are a bunch of things we'd love to do with this site to make it better and easier to navigate that we don't have free time to do right now. We'd be interested in hearing funding ideas.
